Stump Grinding

Reclaim your yard with complete, below-grade stump removal.

Our Approach

A leftover stump is a trip hazard, a pest magnet, and an eyesore. After a removal, we grind the stump several inches below grade and cut up the roots so you can replant, re-sod, or simply enjoy a clean, open yard. We remove all the grindings and debris when we are finished.

Grinding is faster, cleaner, and far less disruptive to your lawn than digging a stump out. We size the job to your yard and access.

A stump left in the ground is not just an eyesore. It is a mower hazard, a trip hazard, and an open invitation to carpenter ants and termites right next to your house. Grinding it out closes that off and gives you the yard back.

Most people book grinding at the same time as the removal so the whole thing is finished in one visit, but plenty of our grinding work is stumps that have been sitting for years, including ones another company left behind.

FAQs

Stump Grinding Questions, Answered

How deep do you grind the stump?

Several inches below grade, plus the surface roots flaring off it, so you can re-sod, replant, or just mow straight over the spot without hitting anything.

Can I plant a new tree in the same place?

Usually yes, though not always right on the exact spot. Grinding leaves a mix of soil and wood chips behind, and that blend needs to break down or be swapped for topsoil before a new tree will thrive there. Ask us on site and we will tell you what that particular spot needs.

Do you take the grindings away?

We clean up the grindings and debris as part of the job. If you want the chips left behind for mulch or backfill, tell us and we will leave them.

Will grinding tear up the rest of the lawn?

Grinding is far less disruptive than digging a stump out with an excavator, which takes a large hole and a lot of soil with it. We size the machine to the yard and the access we have.

Can you grind a stump you did not cut down?

Absolutely. Old stumps, stumps left behind by another company, stumps hiding in a fence line. We grind them all.
